ATLANTA — Georgia Tech police have arrested and charged a hit-and-run driver who they say injured a student on his way to class in January.

in Channel 2 Action News Exclusive, Channel 2’s Michael Seiden Police obtained an arrest affidavit indicating they arrested Soubhagya Nath, 25, of Atlanta. Jail records show he is facing multiple charges, including felony hit-and-run resulting in serious injury.

Police said it was around noon on Jan. 29 when Nass struck the 26-year-old student as he was crossing the street at the intersection of 5th Avenue and W. Peachtree Street.

The student was taken to hospital where he was treated for multiple wounds, and photos provided by police showed the victim holding a large clump of hair that had fallen from his head during the accident.

The student, who asked not to be identified, is expected to make a full recovery.

“We’re really glad they caught him because there are a lot of reckless drivers out there these days,” said Anthony Vining, who works in the area. “You always have to be careful when crossing the road.”

Trending Stories:

Police said Nass was driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer with Florida license plates. After the crash, police traced the SUV’s registration number back to Florida on surveillance footage, where they discovered it had been sold at auction and then resold to a family in Gwinnett County.

The Gwinnett County resident told police he sold the SUV to Nass and his brother on Jan. 28, the day before the hit-and-run crash.

According to an arrest affidavit, Nass allegedly texted and called the family member to whom he sold the SUV, claiming someone had broken into it and damaged it.

As of Tuesday, Nass remained in jail. Court records show he has not retained an attorney. A Georgia Tech spokesman confirmed that Nass has no affiliation with the school.
