It’s no exaggeration to say that excitement around Alabama basketball is at an all-time high after the Crimson Tide made their first-ever Final Four appearance last season, and expectations are running high for next season after coach Nate Oats and his staff signed their No. 2 player for next season.
McDonald’s All-American Derrion Reed, the highest-ranked player in the incoming class, was named to the 2024 USA Basketball Men’s U-18 National Team on Tuesday. Reed was one of 12 players selected to the team following a four-day training camp in Colorado Springs. He will represent the U.S. at the 2024 FIBA U-18 Men’s Americas Cup, to be held June 3-9 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The 6-foot-8 forward is ranked the No. 16 overall player in the Class of 2024 by 247Sports, making him the fourth-highest committed player in program history behind Collin Sexton, Brandon Miller and J.D. Davison. He was named to the USA U-18 National Team, becoming just the second player in Alabama history to be named to the team, joining JaMychal Green, who was selected to the 2008 team.
The United States is in Group B with Argentina, Belize and Brazil, and will open the tournament against Argentina on June 3.
