According to SBI Research, 578 million voters cast their votes in the six phases of the general election, 35 million more than the 543 million who cast their votes in the last Lok Sabha elections in 2019.

Of the additional voters, the number of female voters increased by 17.3 million and the number of male voters increased by 16.2 million, the bureau said in its report on Wednesday.

Soumya Kanti Ghosh, chief economic adviser to the SBI Group, clarified that the survey did not take into account the number of transgender voters, and therefore the total breakdown is about 1.5 million short of the total number of additional voters.

“This means that female voters decisively outnumber male voters… so for every 100 male voters there are 107 female voters,” he said.

So far, voting in six phases has concluded in 486 constituencies, accounting for 90 per cent of the total constituencies.

National Diet.

The turnout in the six phases was recorded at 66 percent. The final phase will be held on June 1.

Additionally, 250 constituencies saw an increase in voter turnout of more than 50,000, while 198 constituencies saw status quo (changes ranging from -50,000 to an increase of up to 50,000), the report said. In the first six phases of the 2024 elections, only 37 constituencies saw a decrease in voter turnout compared to 2019.

As such, so far, the 2024 elections have seen an increase in voter numbers or a status quo in 92 percent of constituencies compared to the last general election.
