7th Lok Sabha Elections to be held on June 1: List of constituencies and key candidates confirmed

The seventh and final round of the 2024 Indian Lok Sabha elections is scheduled for Saturday, June 1. During this period, voters in 57 constituencies across eight states and union territories will cast their votes.

The constituencies are in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Chandigarh. As per the Election Commission guidelines, polling will begin at 7 am and end at 6 pm.

Here is the list of constituencies where voting will take place on Saturday:

Uttar Pradesh (13 seats):

  5. Deoria
  6. Bansgaon
  7. Gossi
  8. Gazipur

Punjab (13 seats):

  4. Jalandhar (SC)
  5. Hoshiarpur (SC)

  8. Fatehgarh Sahib (SC)
  9. Faridkot (SC)

West Bengal (9 seats):

  • Punjab: 328 candidates for 13 seats
  • Uttar Pradesh: 144 candidates in 13 seats
  • Bihar: 134 candidates in 8 seats
  • Odisha: 66 candidates in 6 seats
  • Jharkhand: 52 candidates in 3 seats
  • Himachal Pradesh: 37 candidates in 4 seats
  • Chandigarh: 19 candidates for one seat

Who are the leading candidates?

Narendra Modi (BJP) v Ajay Rai (Indian National Congress) (Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seeking a third term from Varanasi having won the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections, while former BJP leader Ajay Rai joined the Indian National Congress in 2012.

Kangana Ranaut (BJP) vs Vikramaditya Singh (Congress) from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh

In her first election as a politician, actress Kangana Ranaut of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is contesting against Vikramaditya Singh, the son of the late Prime Minister Virbhadra Singh, of the Indian National Congress. Mandi is a stronghold of the Singh family and the seat is currently held by Vikramaditya’s mother, Pratibha Virbhadra Singh.

Anurag Thakur (BJP) versus Satpal Singh Raizada (Congress) from Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur is contesting against Indian National Congress candidate Satpal Singh Raizada. The BJP leader first became the MP from Hamirpur constituency in 2008 after his father resigned and went on to win three more elections from the constituency in 2009, 2014 and 2019.

Ravi Kishan (BJP) vs Kajal Nishad (Samajwadi Party) (Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh)

BJP candidate actor Ravi Kishan will be taking on Samajwadi Party’s Kajal Nishad. In 2019, Kishan defeated SP candidate Rambual Nishad with over 60% of the votes.

Abhishek Banerjee (TMC) from Diamond Harbour, West Bengal

Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, is contesting from the TMC stronghold in the state. He is facing a three-way fight with CPI(M)’s Pratikur Rahman and BJP’s Abhijit Das.

Mitha Bharti (RJD) versus Ram Kripal Yadav (BJP) in Pataliputra, Bihar

Misa Bharti, daughter of RJD leader Lalu Yadav, will take on incumbent MP Ram Kripalu Yadav, who is seeking a third consecutive term. Misa Bharti had lost to him twice, in 2014 and 2019.

Preneet Kaur (BJP) vs Dharamvir Gandhi (Congress) in Patiala, Punjab

Preneet Kaur, a four-time Patiala MP and wife of former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, is taking on Dharamvir Gandhi for the first time as the BJP’s candidate. Gandhi won the Patiala seat in 2014 as the AAP candidate, defeating Kaur, who was then the Indian National Congress candidate. Gandhi joined the Indian National Congress in April.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal (SAD) from Bathinda, Punjab

Harsimrat Kaur Badal, wife of former Union Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal, is the sitting MP from Bathinda thrice, who has won the seat since 2009. She is contesting against AAP’s Gurmeet Singh Khudian, BJP’s Parampal Kaur Sidhu, Indian National Congress’ Jeet Mohinder Sidhu and Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) candidate Lakha Sidhana.

Ravi Shankar Prasad (BJP) vs Anshul Abhijit (Patna, Bihar)

Former Union minister and BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad is vying for the seat against Congress leader Anshul Abhijit, son of former Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar. Patna Sahib constituency is a BJP stronghold, having won with 55 percent of the votes in 2009 and 2014. In 2019, that figure rose to 60 percent, giving Prasad the victory.

Charanjit Singh Channi (Indian National Congress) from Jalandhar, Punjab

Dalit leader and former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi is contesting against Mohinder Singh Kaypee (Shiromani Akali Dal), Sushil Kumar Rinku (BJP) and Pawan Kumar Tinu (AAP). In 2019, Jalandhar was won by the BJP candidate Santokh Singh Chaudhary, who won the seat by a margin of around 19,500 votes. However, a Congress MP died of a heart attack during Rahul Gandhi’s Clean India March. As a result, the seat could be won by Ahmed’s party (AAP) in the 2023 by-elections.
