Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan said Thursday that February’s general election was stolen from his party, calling it the “biggest robbery of the people’s confidence.”

Addressing the Supreme Court via video link from prison, Khan said there had been “gross human rights” violations against him and the party had become a “victim”, adding that he was being held in solitary confinement in Adiyala Prison in the garrison city of Rawalpindi.

Candidates backed by Khan’s party won the most seats in February’s election, but fell short of a majority. Opponent: Shehbaz Sharif With the help of allied parties, they were able to form a government.

Khan was granted leave by the Supreme Court to appear before it to argue a petition against proposed amendments to the country’s anti-corruption laws.

He was speaking to a select group of reporters authorized to cover the trial, which is taking place inside the prison and is closed to the public.
