COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship is returning to Texas.
The United States Hockey Association, in collaboration with the NHL’s Dallas Stars, announced Friday that the 2025 U-18 Men’s World Championship will be held in Frisco and Allen, Texas, from April 23 to May 3, 2025.
This will be the fourth time the tournament has been held in the United States since it began in 1999. The U-18 Men’s World Championship was held in Texas for the first time in 2021.
“We are excited to bring this world-class event to the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area and showcase some of the NHL’s future stars,” USA Hockey executive director Pat Kelleher said in a press release. “We’re grateful for our partnership with the Dallas Stars and are confident the team and fans will enjoy not only our incredible facilities, but also our renowned Texas hospitality.”
The tournament, which will feature 10 countries and the best boys under-18s in the world, will feature a total of 29 matches, all of which will be played at the Comerica Center in Frisco and the Credit Union of Texas Events Center in Allen.
The Comerica Center will host Group B qualifying round matches featuring the United States, Sweden, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Germany, while Group A qualifiers will feature Canada, Slovakia, Finland, Latvia and Norway, with matches being held in Allen.
The two venues, located about 20 minutes apart, will host the two quarterfinals, while the semifinals and bronze and gold medal matches will be held at the 3,500-seat Comerica Center.
“We hosted this event in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area in 2021 with COVID-19 restrictions in place, and we’re excited to host it again now that all of this is behind us,” Tony Driscoll, USA Hockey’s associate executive director of marketing, events and communications, said in a statement. “Fans will enjoy the incredible talent they’ll see on the ice, and we look forward to sharing more details in the coming months.”
The United States has won a medal in 18 of the last 19 Men’s U-18 World Championships. Team USA has won 20 medals, the most of any country ever, and a record 11 gold medals.
The tournament first came to the United States in 2009 and was held in Fargo and Moorhead. It returned to the United States in 2016 and was held in Grand Forks.
Further details about the U-18 Men’s World Championship, including schedule and ticketing information, will be announced in the coming weeks.
