The Athletic evaluates Florida’s 2025 class ahead of official visits

The next four weeks will be big ones for Florida football as Billy Napier and company roll out the red carpet for official visits for members of the 2025 class. The Gators plan to host some of the best talent in the country in hopes of bolstering a sluggish freshman class heading into the summer.

The Orange and Blue are currently ranked 45th in 247Sports’ team recruiting rankings for 2025, but have plenty of chances to move up the rankings quickly if the program can impress with the right player. Manny Navarro of The Athletic recently looked at what’s going on in Gainesville and sees great potential for Florida.

“Billy Napier had the No. 3 player last cycle, but the team lost five straight games to finish 5-7 and lost some big names in the process,” Navarro said of the last class.

“The Gators retained five-star quarterback DJ Lagway and two highly touted in-state prospects, five-star defensive lineman LJ McCray and four-star linebacker Myles Graham, to finish as high as No. 13 in the 2024 cycle.”

5 interesting visitors

“Florida is a hotbed of quality 2025 prospects.”

Navarro lists wide back Caleb Cunningham (five stars, No. 13), linebacker Tavion Wallace (four stars, No. 52), quarterback Kieron Russell (four stars, No. 79), offensive tackle Micah DeBose (four stars, No. 82) and quarterback Antwon Hill (four stars, No. 127) as Florida’s five most intriguing visitors this summer.

Official Visit Schedule

“Cunningham, a Mississippi native and the No. 2 ranked receiver in this class, has been on campus twice and is scheduled to return on June 7th,” Navarro begins.

“He also has visits scheduled to Auburn (Friday), Tennessee (June 14) and Alabama (June 21). With Lagway being part of Florida’s 2024 signing class, quarterback may not seem like a position of high demand, but the Gators are still looking to acquire a good player, with Russell, who’s going to SMU from Texas, and Hill, a Georgia product, on the visiting schedule for back-to-back weekends.”
