SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — It’s no secret that the California coast is lined with beautiful beaches, stretching for about 840 miles from north to south.
Some beaches are known for their iconic landmarks, like the Ferris wheel at Santa Monica State Beach, while others, like the Trestles Beach area in San Clemente, are memorable for their sandy beaches and perfect waves for surfing.
USA Today tried to narrow down the top 10 best beaches in California, specifically those that “have it all.” A panel of experts recommended the top 10, and then the magazine’s readers voted for their favorites.
Three San Diego area beaches made it onto the top 10 list, and can you guess which ones made the cut?
La Jolla Shores Beach

Ranked No. 8 on the list, this La Jolla beach is known for its soft sand and vibrant marine life, especially the seals that inhabit the coastal areas.
USA Today wrote about La Jolla Shores Beach, “La Jolla Shores Beach is a highlight of the San Diego area. It’s a paradise for surfers, swimmers and sunbathers, and offers a variety of activities including snorkeling and kayaking.”
Coronado Beach

Ranked number 5 on the list, Coronado Beach is known for its expansive coastline and the iconic Hotel del Coronado, which draws many visitors every year.
USA Today wrote about the beach, “Whether you’re surfing the Pacific Ocean waves, playing beach volleyball with friends or biking the scenic trails, Coronado Beach offers a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities. Plus, you won’t want to miss one of its spectacular Pacific Ocean sunsets.”
Harbor Beach Oceanside

Higher up on the list, this North County beach comes in at No. 3. The publication says the area “offers a variety of activities for visitors,” including playgrounds, sandy volleyball areas, and even fire pits.
In introducing Harbor Beach, USA Today wrote, “Amenities such as lifeguard towers, picnic areas and grills, along with nearby shops and restaurants, make Harbor Beach a treasured destination for locals and tourists alike.”
