Will the BJP-led NDA return to power for a third term? Will the opposition parties, united under a front called INDIA, be able to give a tough fight to PM Modi? And will there be any new surprises in this election? All these questions will be answered tomorrow when the Election Commission declares the results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Months of preparation and weeks of campaigning on the ground will come to an end on Tuesday.

The counting of votes will begin at 8 a.m. The postal votes will be counted first at all polling stations. The counting of votes recorded in the electronic voting machines will begin 30 minutes after the postal votes begin, the Election Commission said.

The order of counting will be counting of postal votes, then counting of EVMs and finally collation of VVPT votes with EVM results.

2024 Lok Sabha Elections Timeline

The 2024 Indian Lok Sabha elections were held in seven phases on April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25 and June 1. Twenty states, including Delhi, voted in a single phase.

Maharashtra and Jammu and Kashmir held voting in five phases, while Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal held all seven phases. Karnataka, Rajasthan, Tripura and Manipur held voting in two phases. Chhattisgarh and Assam held voting in three phases, while Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand held voting in four phases.

According to the PRS Legislative Research report, 8,360 candidates from 744 political parties, including six nationally recognised parties, ran in the elections in 543 constituencies.

Party projections and exit polls

Union leaders expressed confidence in securing a majority. After the seventh and final round of voting concluded on June 1, Indian National Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge confidently said that the Union would win at least 295 seats.

However, India Today-Axis My India exit polls, as well as several other exit polls, have predicted that the BJP-led NDA will win a third term. Exit polls have predicted that the BJP, which has been chanting the “400 per cent” slogan loudly, may end up close to that mammoth figure.

Five exit polls, including those by India Today and Axis My India, suggest the BJP-led NDA is likely to win 379 seats. The Indian Union, whose main constituent is the Indian National Congress, is likely to win 136 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
