(From Hancock Historical Museum)

Bring your family to celebrate 50 years of Flag City USA at the Hancock Museum of History on Sunday, June 9th from 1-4pm.

This family-friendly event is free and open to the public as part of the Community Foundation’s “Fun for All” series of free community events.

While touring the museum, participants will learn why Findlay was named Flag City and how the community has celebrated through the years and will enjoy a variety of patriotic activities, including:

– New exhibit highlights 50 years of Flag City USA

– Complimentary Kona Ice red, white and blue shaved ice

– Learn proper flag etiquette and disposal from Dan Haas at 2:15 p.m.

– Tom Davis’s encounter with John Hancock, America’s Founding Father and Hancock County’s namesake

– Patriotic children’s book illustrations on display at Mobile Mazza Museum

– Children will receive a free children’s book while supplies last

Community members are encouraged to bring any damaged or unused American flags to an official retirement ceremony to be held at a later date by Disabled Veterans of America (DAV).

“It’s important to celebrate an important occasion like Flag City USA’s 50th anniversary and reflect on the accomplishments of our entire community over the years,” said Sarah Foltz, executive director of Hancock History Museum.

“With the support of the Community Foundation’s ‘Fun for All’ series, we’re able to offer this educational, family-friendly day completely free of charge.”

No registration is required. For more information about Hancock Historical Museum or upcoming events, visit Hancockhistoricalmuseum.org or call 419-423-4433.
