Updated: June 3, 2024, 6:26 PM MDT

Click on this article. More heat and eventually some storms. Chief Meteorologist Jo Jo Diaz tells us when. Yes, the heat is definitely starting. As you can see, temperatures are now in triple digits. From Roswell to Carlsbad, most of northern New Mexico is experiencing above-normal temperatures, and the southwestern part of the state is at normal. But temperatures are trending up everywhere next week. Through the weekend, some areas will experience very hot weather with showers and thunderstorms. In fact, the above-normal temperatures will continue all the way through the 7-day forecast. Be aware. There will be clouds in the northern part of our area, so partly cloudy skies will spread across the region, but it will still be hot and dry. The hot weather is continuing and it’s only going to get hotter as the jet stream rises and passes over us. This is a ridge of high pressure. So the temperatures will get warmer as it descends. Eventually this low pressure will dissipate. High pressure will move away from us for a while. That will bring down the daytime highs and bring in a little bit of moisture, but overall it will be limited. Most of New Mexico will be partly cloudy tomorrow with a high of 64 degrees. I mentioned northwest winds at 15-20 mph with higher gusts. It will be windy and hot in the afternoon with temperatures again in the low 90s. It will be partly cloudy across the state at 7am this morning. Temperatures will trend up by noon. Daytime highs will be lower. The northeast part of the state is still very hot. Southeast New Mexico is getting back up to triple digits. Other areas are also pretty warm. That’s what we’re forecasting for Tuesday on Wednesday. The heat is increasing. Around Albuquerque we’re now hitting the mid 90s. The same is true in the southwest part of the state where temperatures are starting to reach triple digits. It looks like the heat will peak through Thursday. From Interstate 40 south we’ll have many days with temperatures over 100 degrees and above normal. The heat will certainly increase as daytime high temperatures will be higher across the observation area. Tomorrow will be partly cloudy, breezy and warm. Temperatures will be in the 80s. Temperatures will soar through Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, with above-average temperatures continuing for the next few days. 98 degrees in Truth or Consequences and near 100 degrees in Las Cruces. By Thursday, temperatures will start to rise into the 90s. Friday will bring occasional showers and thunderstorms. 86 and above in the Southeast, 100 degrees in Ruidoso. 97 degrees in Hobbs and 97 degrees in Alamogordo, with temperatures reaching triple digits for the next few days. Expect showers and thunderstorms Friday through Saturday. Northeast New Mexico. A decent start with temperatures in the mid 80s in the afternoon, with increased chances of rain and thunderstorms through Saturday, Sunday and Monday. In the northern mountains, 84 in Taos, 73 in Red River. Look at the temperatures. Mid to upper 80s in Santa Fe, rising to the low 90s with scattered showers and thunderstorms over the weekend. The metro area will have a breezy start with well above average temperatures across Bernalillo, Rio Rancho and Campbell, with a normal 88 degrees tomorrow for this time of the year. Low to mid 90s Tuesday and Wednesday, 99 on Thursday. Then cooler daytime highs as more moist air returns to the region. Still hot over the weekend with scattered showers and thunderstorms. A hotter than normal start to June for sure. And that’s the trend for the next few days. We got 99. We got 100. Your numbers just don’t add up. This is a Hall of Fame forecast by a Hall of Fame meteorologist. Yes. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame today.
