Former Pakistan cricketer and T20 World Cup winning captain Younis Khan offered some valuable advice to the Pakistan team ahead of their upcoming clash with India in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Pakistan will take on India at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on June 9. The World Cup, co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies, is expected to draw large numbers of fans from both countries and is once again expected to be a blockbuster event this year.

Khan was captain of the Pakistan team that eventually won the T20 World Cup in 2009, beating Sri Lanka in the final at Lord’s Cricket Ground.

What is Younis Khan’s advice for the 2024 T20 World Cup match between Pakistan and India?

Appearing on PTV Sports, former Pakistan cricketer Younis Khan was asked by host Erin Holland what he would do if he were the captain of the Pakistan team in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

This was Khan’s advice to Babar Azam’s team.

“The answer is very simple. [Pakistan team] Feeling fresh and without worries [about pressure] This is an India vs Pakistan match.”

Khan emphasised that maintaining positive body language at all times, regardless of what is happening during the toss or on the field, should be a key mindset shift, which he added is what has led past teams to success, including the 2009 World Cup winning squad.

“Players should go in with that mindset. If you go to the toss, don’t worry about winning or losing. It’s the body language that matters. Make sure it’s good. That’s how we used to play.” [in the past]”

He added that he expects the New York pitching to generate a scoring rush in the featured games.

But the pitch at the Nassau County Stadium drew criticism from the Indian team when they played their only T20 World Cup warm-up match against Bangladesh at the venue, with India coach Rahul Dravid describing the wicket as “spongy”.

In the first T20 World Cup match played at this stadium, South Africa beat Sri Lanka by 77 runs in 19.1 overs. They reached the target in 16.2 overs.

When is India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2024 match?

Pakistan will play their first match of the T20 World Cup 2024 against hosts USA in Dallas on June 6, followed by India at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on June 9.

The match will begin at 8 PM Indian Standard Time and the toss is scheduled to take place at 7:30 PM Indian Standard Time.
