Live House of Representatives election results: Mixed results for next generation of political families

The next generation of political dynasties is showing mixed performance in the 2024 House of Representatives elections, with some candidates looking likely to win while others face tough odds.

Among the candidates who fared better, BJP’s Karan Bhushan Singh, son of former Indian Wrestling Federation president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, won in Kaiserganj in Uttar Pradesh by securing over 571,263 votes. Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of late BJP stalwart Sushma Swaraj, led in the New Delhi constituency by securing 419,071 votes.

In Maharashtra, Shiv Sena chief minister Eknath Shinde’s son Shrikant Shinde maintains a huge lead in Kalyan constituency with a margin of over 250,000 votes.

But not all political scions performed well. Suspended JD(S) leader Prajwal Revanna, grandson of former chief minister HD Deve Gowda, lost by over 42,000 votes in Karnataka’s Hassan Assembly constituency. Similarly, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad’s daughter Rohini Acharya faced a tough fight in Saran against the BJP’s Rajiv Pratap Rudy.

Meanwhile, Radhakrishna Doddamani, son-in-law of Indian National Congress leader M. Mallikarjun Kharge, won in the Gulbarga Assembly constituency in Karnataka by a margin of 27,205 votes.

Anil Antony, son of Congress leader A.K. Antony, maintained his lead in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta Lok Sabha constituency with over 367,000 votes, while Suvendu Adhikari, brother of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Suvendu Adhikari, also maintained his lead in Kanthi, West Bengal.

In the Maldaha Dakshin constituency in West Bengal, Isha Khan Chowdhury, son of former Union minister Abu Hasem Khan Chowdhury and of the Indian National Congress party, topped the list with 561,330 votes.

While some political scions are celebrating their victory, others are facing the challenge of surviving a fierce election campaign.
