Indian Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Pakistani media has been cautious in reporting the results of the neighbouring Indian Lok Sabha elections. The NDA led by Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to comfortably secure a majority in the lower house, but in a surprise move, the opposition Pro-India parties have grown stronger than ever, limiting the BJP’s tally to well below 300 seats.

Pakistani daily Dawn reported the results of the Indian Lok Sabha election under the headline “India vote count sees Modi coalition win surprising narrow majority,” but refrained from making any comment.
The news article’s band read, “BJP concedes defeat in Ayodhya, where Ram temple was inaugurated; Rahul Gandhi says voters have punished BJP.”The BJP’s loss of the Faisalabad seat in Uttar Pradesh, in particular the constituency that is home to the party’s prestigious project, the Ayodhya Ram temple, came as a shock to many.
Last week, former Pakistani minister Fawad Chaudhry, in an interview with IANS, argued that Prime Minister Modi should be defeated in the upcoming general election. “It is very important that Modi loses the election. Every Pakistani wants him (Narendra Modi) to lose,” Chaudhry told IANS.
“…The BJP-RSS combine in India is fomenting hatred against Pakistan. Pakistan has no hatred towards India. They (BJP government) are spreading hatred against Muslims. So, this ideology ‘Karta Dharta’ should be defeated,” he told the news agency.

Qatar-based daily Al Jazeera ran the headline, “Modi’s BJP suffers major defeat, loses majority.”
American broadcaster and news site CNN ran the story under the headline “PM Modi faces shocking consequences.”
Another US media outlet, the New York Times, reported that “India’s election results signal a setback for Prime Minister Modi.”
BJP’s reaction to the possibility of the NDA getting a third term in the Indian government
The BJP on Tuesday asserted that its alliance’s victory in the Lok Sabha elections is a confirmation of people’s faith and confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Viksit Bharat’ vision.
Home Minister Amit Shah said on X that the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) victory in three consecutive general elections shows that the people have confidence in Prime Minister Modi alone. The voters’ support is a blessing for the efforts made by the Prime Minister in the last decade for the welfare of the poor and farmers, revival of traditions and self-respect of women.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the NDA’s electoral victory was a triumph for Prime Minister Modi’s policies and commitment to the welfare of the poor. “Modi will be our prime minister for the third time. Under his leadership, we will work with renewed energy and enthusiasm to realise the dream of a developed India,” Singh added.
