After six weeks of marathon voting in seven phases, the results of the 2024 Indian Lok Sabha elections were announced yesterday. The BJP-led NDA won 292 seats, beating the opposition alliance ‘Indonesia’ which won 232 seats.
The NDA and the Indian Union are due to hold a crucial meeting today to discuss the way forward.The tussle between the BJP and the Indian Union reflects a wider ideological struggle.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has secured a third term but the BJP will mainly need the support of the other parties in its coalition government, Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) and Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP.

Veteran actor and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Shatrughan Sinha won the Lok Sabha elections in Asansol, defeating Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Surendrajeet Singh Ahluwalia. “Under the leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Mamata Banerjee, very good results have been achieved. I thank the people of Asansol. There is a big difference between what the Bharatiya Janata Party says and what it does,” Sinha said.

2024 election results: Ministers who lost
BJP stalwarts Smriti Irani, Arjun Munda, Rajiv Chandrasekhar, Kailash Choudhury and Ajay Mishra Teni have lost their seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The BJP’s setbacks were not limited to these notables. Ministers like Mahendra Nath Pandey, Kaushal Kishore, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, Sanjiv Balian, Rao Saheb Danve, RK Singh, V Muralidharan, L Murugan, Subhash Sarkar and Nishith Pramanik also lost their seats in the elections.
