2024 General Election Results News: Prime Minister Narendra Modi submitted his resignation to President Drupadi Murmu and the Council of Ministers today. Narendra Modi is likely to be sworn in as Prime Minister for a third consecutive term on June 8 as the NDA narrowly surpassed the 292 seats needed to form a government, India Today reported, citing sources. Modi will be the second leader to be sworn in as Prime Minister for a third term after Jawaharlal Nehru. As it became clear that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alone could not achieve its target of winning 370 seats in the Indian Lok Sabha, the party’s leaders have started discussions with leaders of allied parties on forming a government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi first met Telugu Desam Party chief N. Chandrababu Naidu, while Amit Shah met with Bihar’s Nitish Kumar, Chirag Paswan and Jitan Ram Manjhi. The Indian National Congress will also hold talks with its former allies, JD(U) leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Telugu Desam Party chief Chandrababu Naidu, to explore options for forming the government, a party leader said at a press conference. The NDA won a total of 292 seats, with one result still pending. The NDA struggled after a lukewarm performance in the key state of Uttar Pradesh, while a vibrant Indian Alliance bounced back by winning 233 seats. The Indian National Congress won 99 seats, a significant increase from 52 in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Other parties, including regional parties and independents, won a total of 17 seats.
The BJP and its allies won 17 seats in the 2024 Maharashtra general elections, but the BJP’s seat tally fell by more than half compared to 2019. Meanwhile, the Maha Vikas Aghadi of the Indian National Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) won 30 of the 48 seats. The saffron party won nine seats, a significant drop from the 23 it won in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra. Its ally, the Shiv Sena, won seven seats. The NCP led by Ajit Pawar won one seat, but his wife Sunetra Pawar was heavily defeated in Baramati by Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Sule.
