Lok Sabha Election Results 2024 Live Updates: Caretaker Prime Minister Narendra Modi was expected to stake claim to form the new government at the Centre later on Wednesday. However, no such action has been taken yet. Nitish Kumar, Chandrababu Naidu and other NDA members elected Narendra Modi as their leader.
PM Modi, along with the Union Council of Ministers, resigned on Wednesday. He tendered his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu. “The President accepted the resignation and requested the Prime Minister and the Union Council of Ministers to continue in office till the new Government is formed,” Rashtrapati Bhavan informed.
The development came after the Election Commission of India announced the Lok Sabha Election Results 2024 on Tuesday. The BJP emerged victorious on 240 out of 543 seats, while the Congress secured 99 seats. Despite the Lok Sabha having 543 members, counting was conducted for 542 seats following the uncontested election of BJP’s Surat candidate, Mukesh Dalal. Although the BJP fell short of the 272-majority mark, it will rely on NDA allies to form the government. The election results did not deliver the overwhelming victory anticipated by the BJP-led NDA or as indicated by the exit polls.
