The opposition Indian Union will sit in opposition for the time being despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party “subverting the will of the people,” Indian National Congress Party leader Mallikarjun Kharge said today. But there was a caveat: “The Indian Union will continue to resist the fascist regime…We will take appropriate steps at the appropriate time to fulfil the aspirations of the people that they do not want to be ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party,” Kharge added, reading out a statement adopted by all alliance partners after a strategy meeting at his Delhi residence.
