A two-wheeled sports car drives past Starbucks seconds before it crashes on Route 1
We have breaking news starting at 11 tonight. Look on the right side of the screen as a car goes by. This is security camera footage that you can only see on the 5. We see a car speeding on two wheels down Route 1 in Walpole, with a sports car, destroying fences, tables, chairs, and then crashing into a Starbucks. A Starbucks employee was taken to the hospital in an accident. Good evening everyone. Tonight with Maria, Ed Harding, Jennifer Burnett. This happened just about 8 o’clock at the Starbucks on Route 1 in Walpole. John Atwater is here with us tonight, live from the scene, talking to people who witnessed and heard this crazy event. John and Jen, witnesses say this was an incredibly horrific event. They say the car was flying down Route 1 here, and you can see it go off the road and crash into this Starbucks. You can see the extensive damage to that store over there. They’re working on reinforcing it right now. But look at this dashcam footage that you can only see on the 5.The car is seen hitting a utility pole, then getting up on two wheels and speeding out of control south on Route 1. The car drives past cars stopped at red lights, ripping up paving stones on the side of the road, and then, amazingly, the light turns green. That means no cross traffic. Here’s another video from a security camera. The car drives past all traffic in the breakdown lane and across Route 27 right by the Big Y on Route 1. The car crashed through a fence in the Starbucks patio area and into the store just before they closed at 8 tonight. A worker inside the car was injured and witnesses say they couldn’t believe how fast that car was going. The car jumped the curb in front of a gas station and the road is littered with dirt and debris. I think it crossed the intersection here on Route 1, jumped the curb and went into the side of Starbucks and the driver got out. She was OK. Here’s a video of the worker being taken away by an ambulance. You can see she is conscious and alert. We’re told her injuries were minor. If you look at this photo of the restaurant inside, you can see that there may have been a customer sitting at the table that was thrown into the restaurant. Police are currently investigating how this happened. They say speed appears to have been a factor. Amazingly,
