New trend mixes Dr Pepper with pickles – Deseret News

According to CNN, Dr Pepper has overtaken Pepsi to become the second most popular soda brand in the US, with Coca-Cola still the top choice. To get in on the conversation, why not try TikTok’s latest bizarre soda trend?

The internet is known for serving up unconventional soda ideas, like the trend of mixing balsamic vinegar with soda water as a healthier alternative to cola.

But the latest concoction features an even more unusual combination: Dr Pepper and pickles.

Given Dr Pepper’s popularity, it’s no surprise that fans are finding unique ways to enjoy their favorite drink, but mixing Dr Pepper with pickles seems especially unexpected.

The trend started after TikTok user Mississippi Meemaw shared a video of himself ordering a drink at Sonic.

“Do you guys like pickles? Do you like Dr. Pepper?” she asked in the video. “Come on, come with your mommy. Mommy’s gonna show you something.”

In the video, she can be seen ordering a drink, with slices of dill pickle floating among the ice.

“Don’t judge until you’ve tried it,” she said. “Did you hear the way she said it when she took my order? I’m not the only one who ordered this, baby.”

She ends the video by taking a sip and saying, “It’s so delicious. Everyone should try it.”

Do Dr Pepper and pickles go together?

From there, the video went viral and started a trend of people trying the drink, with mixed reactions, with some users enjoying it and others expressing disgust.

One user posted a video showing them looking confused by the drink, unsure if they liked the combination.

“I feel like this is kind of an abuse of Dr. Pepper, because this is Dr. Pepper and these are pickles,” she said, as she topped her drink with pickles.

“By the way,” she added, “They’ll look at you funny and make you repeat this 50 billion times.”

After taking a sip, she said, “I don’t know if I like it. I’m so confused. It tastes like pickles. It tastes like Dr. Pepper. But together. I’m not sure about this one.”

Another duo tried it out together on TikTok, with one giving it a 7 out of 10, while the other wasn’t as impressed.

“I can’t do everything they tell me to do on TikTok,” she said. “It’s awful. It’s a two out of 10.”

Not feeling brave? Try a dirty soda instead

Dirty sodas are another popular trend that started in Utah and quickly spread. Dirty sodas are sodas (Dr. Pepper being one of the most popular choices) mixed with a variety of syrups.

The popularity of soda drinks has led to soda shops like Swig and Sodalicious popping up all over Utah.

Here are some Swig options that might be even tastier than a Dr Pepper with pickles.

  • Dirty Dr Pepper: Dr Pepper and coconut syrup.
  • The good and the bad: Dr Pepper, English toffee syrup, half and half.
  • Dragon Dew: Mountain Dew, lemonade, dragon fruit, raspberry puree, vanilla cream, frozen dragon fruit.
  • Butterbeer: Root beer, butterscotch syrup, vanilla cream.
  • Riptide: Sprite, cranberry, raspberry, fresh lime.
