San Jose CIO Taufik appears in webinar on emerging technologies

San Jose’s chief information officer, Khaled Tawfik, will speak at a free webinar next week about the city’s efforts to pioneer new technologies, including AI.

This event is Government Technology*, The event will begin at 11 a.m. on June 13. Taufik will be in conversation with Phil Bertolini, senior vice president of events at e.Republic.. Taufik and Bertolini will discuss the city’s efforts to pioneer new technologies, including AI, and the event will be of interest to technology vendors working in or wanting to work with the public sector.

“This lightning round discussion will explore the critical role technology plays in bridging the digital divide, including policies and strategies for using AI to streamline operations, improve decision-making, and deliver more efficient and accessible services to citizens,” the event announcement said. Tawfik “will also identify opportunities for vendors to partner with the City to prioritize equity, access, and citizen-centric service delivery.”

San Jose is an award-winning city that has been at the forefront of technology innovation under Towfik and his predecessor, former CIO and Deputy Mayor Rob Lloyd, who announced his appointment as Seattle’s chief technology officer late last month.

Tawfik said, Industry Insider — California A one-on-one interview conducted shortly after he took over as CIO in April 2022, succeeding Lloyd. Tawfik has extensive experience as a technology executive in both the public and private sectors. He was CIO of Irvine before taking over as CIO of San Jose. Prior to that, he served as head of IT for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works for nearly 16 years. Khaled holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of California, Irvine and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from St. Mary’s University in Texas.

With deep experience in government technology, Bertolini has a deep understanding of the needs of government IT leaders.
