Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, newly elected legislators and allies including TDP leader N. Chandrababu Naidu and JD(U)’s Nitish Kumar on Friday voiced their support for Narendra Modi to lead the next National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition government. Modi was elected as the NDA’s parliamentary leader at a meeting in the Central Hall of Parliament.
Narendra Modi is due to take oath as prime minister on Sunday. Modi, along with Naidu and Nitish Kumar, are due to meet President Drupadi Murmu later today to formally claim power.
“All pending issues in Bihar will be completed. It is very good that we all are united and working with you (PM Modi). You will be taking oath as the Chief Minister on Sunday but I wanted you to take oath today. Whenever you take oath, we will be with you. We all will work together under your leadership,” Nitish Kumar said at the meeting.
The Bihar Chief Minister also tried to touch Modi’s feet but was stopped by the Prime Minister, after which the two leaders shared a hug.

Kumar also said the opposition Party of India, which won seats this time, would lose in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2029. The NDA won 293 seats in the recently concluded general election out of the 543-seat Lok Sabha, well above the 272 majority required.
“They have never worked for the country. They have never served the country. Under your (PM Modi) leadership the country will progress,” he said.

The BJP won by winning 240 of the 543 seats, while the Indian National Congress secured 99. Although the BJP fell short of the 272-seat majority, it will have to rely on the NDA alliance to form a government.
