Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Tamilisai Soundararajan on Saturday, June 8, 2024 said that if the Indian National Congress had contested the elections without the support of the DMK, it would have lost its deposits in all the constituencies it contested in in Tamil Nadu.
“Congress leaders have no moral right to criticise the Bharatiya Janata Party. They have been riding on the shoulders of the DMK to win the elections. If they had contested alone, they would have forfeited their deposits in all constituencies…Congress leader P Chidambaram said it was difficult to run a coalition government and the Bharatiya Janata Party had no experience. But they… [Congress] “The party is struggling to run itself. It has enough experience to run a government.”
Replying to a question about recent remarks made by AIADMK leaders about their previous alliance with the BJP, she said: “Those who said that the party lost the last elections because of its alliance with the BJP are now saying that had the alliance continued, we would have won the 2024 elections… I am happy that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recognised the BJP’s performance in Tamil Nadu.”
It may be recalled that AIADMK’s Coimbatore Chief Minister and former minister SP Velumani had blamed BJP state president K Annamalai for the split and claimed that if the AIADMK-BJP alliance had remained intact, it could have easily won 35-40 seats in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
Soundararajan further said that the BJP top brass will decide on the party’s alliance for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections at a later date.
