Bill May Left behind by America Artistic Swimming Team 2024 Paris Olympics.
In an announcement on Saturday, June 8, Team USA revealed its 12-man roster that will compete in the Olympics, but the 45-year-old was absent.
In December 2022, World Aquatics changed the rules to allow men to compete in artistic swimming (formerly synchronized swimming) at the Olympics, and each National Olympic Committee (NOC) can field up to two male swimmers in the eight-athlete team event.
Men have been allowed to compete at the World Aquatics Championships since 2015, but until recent developments, the Olympic stage was restricted to women only.
May, who competed at the World Aquatics Championships in February and was part of the group that won a silver medal at the same event the previous year, expressed great optimism about being selected.
The New York native began artistic swimming at age 10, before rules regarding men’s participation made it impractical to compete.
May took a break from the sport until he got the chance to compete at the highest level again in 2015. Since then, he has won five World Championship medals.
However, the U.S. team chose not to select any men for the Olympic team.
With the United States being the last country to announce its roster for the upcoming Olympics, there will officially be no men’s artistic swimmers competing in the Paris 2024 Games.
