The fast-changing world we live in today has made it easier for people to connect, get to know each other and find a partner. But it also means we are exploring new territories of exploring each other’s choices and desires even before we know each other. Dating trends are changing rapidly.

New situations arise so frequently that they quickly develop terms for this situation. You may have heard many GenZ dating terms such as breadcrumbing, cuffing, beige flagging, etc. There are multiple stages before starting a relationship. According to a new trend, this comes from penguins and is called “pebbling.”

What is Pebbling?

As the New York Post explains, when penguins fall in love, they give each other pebbles to show that they’re interested in mating. The penguins then use the pebbles to build nests. So pebbling comes from the penguin behavior of humans performing acts of kindness to brighten someone’s day and let them know they’re thinking of them.

For humans, pebbling comes in many forms: sending each other memes, Instagram reels, messages, and social media posts. “I think this is the cutest thing ever, because memes are the language of love now,” said relationship expert Gigi Engle. Metro UK.

How can pebbling help relationships?

“Pebbling is a really good way to joke and connect with your partner,” says Gigi. Relationships these days are entirely dependent on communication, and in the busy world we live in, some days it may seem difficult to express affection or simply communicate with your partner. Sending them a funny meme or one that they can relate to in your relationship will make them feel valued.

While this might not be the ideal way to show your love to your partner, sharing funny messages can actually help strengthen your bond, as Gigi explained, “It’s like sending a message that says, ‘This reminds me of you.'”
