Virat Kohli returns to the pavilion after being dismissed against Pakistan©AFP
India batsman Virat Kohli again underperformed in his match against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2024 on Sunday, being dismissed for just four runs. Kohli managed just one run against Ireland in the first Group A match and then conceded his wicket to Naseem Shah with an extremely loose shot against Pakistan. In the second over of the match, Naseem delivered a delivery wide of the off stump but Kohli decided to chase it down and his ill-timed shot went straight into the hands of Usman Khan. As Virat returned to the pavilion, he was visibly upset with his shot choice and cameras also captured the look of disappointment on the face of his wife Anushka Sharma, who was in the stadium.
Earlier, Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam won the coin toss and chose to bowl.
“Due to the weather and dampness on the pitch, we will bowl first. The conditions suit us and we have four fast bowlers. We will give our best. Bygones are bygones. We are looking forward to today’s match. We are fully prepared and will give 100 per cent. An India vs Pakistan match is always a big game and we are always full of confidence. Azam Khan is rested,” Babar said at the toss.
India captain Rohit Sharma said he would have bowled too if he had won the toss.
“I would have bowled first too. You have to assess what the conditions are and see what a good score is. These matches have helped us assess the conditions here. We discussed what we need to do as a batting unit to get good scores and then the bowling unit will defend us. Every match is important in a World Cup and you can’t just play. Anything can happen. We will go into the matches with the same 11 members.”
