It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through 2024. And while the last six months have flown by, the world of interior design remains as busy as ever.
We indulged in our love of literature by embracing the abundance of bookshelves, splashed a little red throughout our homes with the unexpected Red Theory, got a little playful, experimented with eclectic interior trends, and fell in love with vintage, analog decor that evoked the ’70s (and prioritized all things subdued). And looking back, the consensus couldn’t be clearer: vibrant, characterful interiors are back.
With summer fast approaching, Pinterest has released its seasonal trend predictions. This year is your chance to “embrace big, bold style.” Unique and individualistic styles are gaining a lot of popularity on the pinning platform, and there’s something for every home and every personality. These are the interior design trends that Pinterest predicts will stick around for summer and beyond.
6 Pinterest trend predictions you’ll never tire of
Making your home feel more personal is the theme of 2024, and Pinterest’s trending searches are proof of that. Neutral, simple spaces are timeless and definitely not going away anytime soon, but this year has brought out more creativity (and fun) in design than ever before.
“Gone are the days of bland, generic beige interiors. People crave spaces that are full of color, comfort and character, that reflect their own personalities and create special, inviting spaces that are unique to them,” the brand’s trend report states. “This trend towards personalized, eclectic and inviting home décor is driven by the desire to create environments that evoke a sense of joy.”
1. Nancy Meyers

Nancy Meyers style is a relatively new interiors trend, but it’s based on a timeless design style that’s sure to be here to stay. Based on the nostalgic and cozy set designs seen in the director’s films, the style features warm color schemes, simple patterns, and a touch of vintage flair. With a timeless look and appealing design features, the Nancy Meyers-inspired trend fits perfectly into homeowners’ top priorities.
According to Pinterest, searches for “Nancy Meyers living room” are up 2,090% compared to the same time last year, followed by “Nancy Meyers home” at 2,055%. Bedrooms and kitchens inspired by this style are not far behind, seeing increases of 1,505% and 620%, respectively.
2. Whimsical decor

If you’re ready to stop taking your home so seriously, then this is for you. Home decor should always have plenty of whimsy and fun, and Pinterest predicts that whimsical decor will remain at the top of users’ lists.
This exciting, expressive style has a sense of humour and is all about unique and unexpected style combinations. With a 4,690% increase in ‘whimsical decor’ since last year and a 280% increase in the enduring ‘dopamine decor’ trend, now is the time to create a space that lifts your spirits and makes you happy. Bright colours, bold patterns and mismatched styles are all welcome.
3. Dopamine Decoration

Dopamine decorating is one of the longest-running trends on the list, and for good reason: its fun-forward, boring-defying look is sure to make you (and only you) happy. A trend that bucks the never-ending cycle of fashion going in, going out, and coming back in, dopamine decorating can make you achieve anything you want.
That’s right, as long as your home feels cozy. Typically, most of this style is comprised of bright colors and unique shapes, with bold wallpapers and rich textures creating a classy look.
4. Color it

Searches for “color drenching” are up 990% compared to the same time last year, another sign that bold hues are here to stay. This painting technique packs a punch and brings a unique sense of luxury and design to your interiors.
Color drenching is used throughout this gorgeous home library designed by Marie Flanigan Interiors. The deep maroon shade that covers the walls, trim, glazing and ceiling gives this room a unique presence. Different finishes on different surfaces ensure the color drenching is not too overpowering and does not overwhelm the everyday. If you’re looking to create a dynamic, immersive space, color drenching is a timeless and enduring technique.
5. Eclectic decor

The eclectic interiors trend embraces a distinctive, personality-driven, and collectible approach to interior design, and it feels like a natural outgrowth of the bookshelf abundance aesthetic (which surged in popularity earlier this year). Decorating with heirlooms, evocative patterns, and generally unusual furniture and decor pieces is the name of the game in eclectic interiors.
This trend is aligned with a newfound love for all things vintage, with Pinterest reporting a 1,418% increase in searches for “vintage eclectic home” compared to the same time last year. “Pastel eclectic decor” is also up 130%, highlighting the recent popularity of vintage and pastel kitchens and bathrooms.

Vintage furniture and decor never has and will never go out of style, but this year more and more designers and homeowners are turning to second-hand pieces to jazz up their design schemes. With the retro look gaining popularity and transitional style, which cleverly combines vintage and contemporary elements, making a comeback, it’s no wonder we’re seeing an upsurge in searches for all things vintage.
According to Pinterest, searches for “vintage plates on the wall” are up 119% since last year, with “vintage dinnerware” close behind at 212%. “Vintage Americana” is also up 164% this year. Additionally, searches for “grandma’s bedroom” are up 2,605% this year compared to last year, proving that people are seeking a well-worn, collected aesthetic that embraces vintage charm.
Vintage pieces are great value for money and add a unique charm to any interior, so mix up eras and styles to create a homely feel that will never go out of style.
While interior design isn’t all about trends, these Pinterest picks are promising. They’re based on design choices that prioritize personality, not fads. Pay more attention to fun-oriented design features and look for vintage charm, and this summer will be one to remember.
