Courteney Cox is the latest to jump on the ’80s dance trend bandwagon with a dance she actually did in the 1980s.
Then-unknown, the blue-eyed brunette created a sensation in 1984 when Bruce Springsteen reached into the audience, pulled her up onstage and made her his dance partner at the end of his award-winning music video.
The practice has become standard since the Ivor Novello Award winner traveled the world with the E Street Band’s Born in the USA tour.
Four decades on, the former Friends star is proving he’s still got the acting chops that made him the envy of millions.
In the fun social media video, the 59-year-old actress can be seen in her living room wearing a teal hoodie, white T-shirt and jeans.
The message on the screen read: “Ask your mom how she danced in the ’80s.”
She begins to raise her arms in the air and make awkward movements to the techno music.
The Emmy nominee shook her head and quickly unzipped her hoodie to reveal the same concert T-shirt she wore in the video dancing with the hitmaker.
She interspersed snippets of video footage among the clips.
“1980s dancing…in the dark,” Cox posted alongside the video on Sunday.
His Friends co-star Jennifer Aniston responded with applause, fireworks and crying-laughing emojis.
Jennifer Garner declared Cox the winner of the viral contest. “You win! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️,” she said.
Actress Ali Wentworth called the move “iconic!”, while Julianne Moore showed her enthusiasm with clapping emojis.
Fans of the multi-talented star responded with their own video clips from an episode of Friends, which show Cox’s character Monica performing a variety of awkward dance moves.
“This is genius! The moves are still perfect,” commented one excited fan, while another wrote, “Every time I see the Boss on stage I secretly hope he sings along to this song! ❤️”
In a video celebrating the 40th anniversary of the album Born in the USA posted on Springsteen’s Instagram account, he revealed that “Dancing in the Dark” was “added at the very end of the album as the lead single.”
The song won the award for Best Rock Vocal Performance, earning the singer her first Grammy Award.
