University of Alabama basketball freshman Derrion Reed won the gold medal on Sunday after helping the U.S. team defeat Argentina, 110-70, in the FIBA U-18 Americas Cup final.
Reed, a five-star recruit who is set to join the Crimson Tide team in the coming weeks, recorded six points and two rebounds in the gold medal game. He showed off his scoring and rebounding ability over six games in Argentina, averaging 10.3 points and 7.7 rebounds.
The FIBA AmeriCup is an international basketball championship held every four years between national teams from the Americas. Reid was one of 12 players selected for the U-18 National Team, made up of players 18 and under.
Reed is the highest-rated member of Alabama’s No. 2-ranked 2024 recruiting class and is rated as a consensus top-15 recruit and will look to earn immediate playing time for the Crimson Tide this season.
