Get ready for Maharashtra elections: Sharad Pawar tells NCP (SP) workers on party’s foundation day

NCP (SP) leader Sharad Pawar on June 10 asked party workers to prepare for the Maharashtra Assembly elections scheduled for later this year and asserted that power in the state would be in the hands of party workers after the elections.

He was addressing party workers as NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) celebrated its 25th anniversary at its Pune office, days after his party contested the 2024 general elections from Maharashtra as part of the opposition alliance and won eight of the 10 seats in the Lower House of India.

Pawar hoisted the party flag in the presence of his daughter and Baramati New Communist Party (SP) MP Supriya Sule along with other party leaders and activists.

“For the last 25 years, we have been working hard to spread the party’s ideals and let us work together to take it forward. State assembly elections will be held in the next three months and after the elections, state power will be in your hands so it is our collective responsibility to work towards it,” the NCP founder said.

Pawar left the Indian National Congress in 1999 to form the National Congress Party (NCP).

The NCP split in July last year after Ajit Pawar and several other Congress leaders joined the Shiv Sena-BJP government in the state.

In February this year, the Election Commission declared Ajit Pawar’s faction to be the true Congress Party and allocated the Congress symbol, a clock, to it.

Sharad Pawar’s NCP (SP) was then allotted the ‘Tulha (traditional trumpet) playing man’ symbol to contest the elections.
