BHOPAL: The Bahujan Samaj Party failed to win any seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections but its vote share in Madhya Pradesh increased slightly with its candidates bagging over 1 lakh votes in several constituencies.

According to Election Commission data, Mayawati’s BSP won 2.38% of the votes in MP in the 2019 elections, which rose to 3.28% in 2024.

The 2024 general election results were announced on June 4, with the party’s candidates in Morena (Ramesh Garg) and Satna (Narayan Tripathi) securing 179,669 and 185,618 votes respectively. In Morena, BJP’s Shivmangal Tomar won, while in Satna, Ganesh Singh won. Their margins of victory were 52,530 and 84,949 votes, suggesting that the BSP had made inroads into the Indian National Congress’ votes.

In the 2024 elections, the BSP won over 200,000 votes in Khajuraho, 150,000 votes in Morena and Satna, and 12.5 to 150,000 votes in Rewa, but its votes ranged from less than 10,000 to 50,000 in 22 constituencies, including Balaghat, Indore and Ujjain.

The party’s MP vote share in 1991, 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2004 was 3.54%, 8.18%, 8.7%, 5.23% and 4.75% respectively.

BSP leader in the Lok Sabha, Ramakant Pipal, attributed the increase in vote share to Mayawati’s rallies in Rewa and Moriang and proper coordination among all parties in the state.

BSP’s Bheem Singh won the Lok Sabha elections in 1991 and the party won the seat twice thereafter. In the 2024 elections, BSP candidate Abhishek Patel won 1.17 crore votes.
