COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Another Buckeye athlete has earned a ticket to this summer’s Paris Olympics and will represent Team USA in the pool.

Ohio State artistic swimmer Ruby Lematty will be part of an eight-person U.S. team competing in the French capital this summer. The 21-year-old Andover, Massachusetts native was born in Sydney but is a dual citizen. Lematty is a member of Ohio State’s outstanding synchronized swimming team, which won two national championships in 2022 and 2023.

Buckeye golfers Maxwell Moldovan and Neil Shipley qualify for the U.S. Open

This will be Lemathy’s first Olympic appearance, after being a regular on the U.S. team at world championships and as part of the Pan American team. She helped qualify for the U.S. to compete in the duet event at the Tokyo Olympics, but did not make the trip to Japan in 2021.

She will compete in the team event, one of two artistic swimming events in Paris. Megumi Field and Jamie Czarkowski will represent the United States in the duet competition. The U.S. team did not compete in the team event in Tokyo, but Russia has won the event in the past six Olympic Games. The U.S. has not won an Olympic medal in artistic swimming in the last 20 years.

Olympic artistic swimming will begin on August 5 with the Team Technical Routine, one of three routines performed in the team competition. The Free Routine will be held on August 6, followed by the Acrobatic Routine on August 7. Remathy and all of the swimming events at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games can be watched exclusively on NBC4 and NBCUniversal channels.
