  • Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Man Noir broke the trend of 45 years of Spider-Man films.
  • Sony plans to expand its live-action Spider-Man slate with a new TV series, starting with Spider-Man Noir.
  • Cage will bring a darker, film noir-inspired live-action Spider-Man to Prime Video.

Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Man Noir Breaking the long-standing Spider-Man trend is Tom Holland, the young actor who brings Peter Parker to life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The young actor will continue to play Spider-Man in the MCU, but with Holland’s Spider-Man 4 in the works, that doesn’t mean he’ll be the only one to portray the hero in live-action. Sony is preparing to expand its live-action Spider-Man projects with several new TV series, starting with Cage’s film adaptation of Spider-Man. Noir.

Planned Silk: Spider Society While the series is not moving forward with Prime Video, Sony is hard at work on Cage’s live-action Spider-Man debut. Cage has already voiced Spider-Man Noir in two animated movies in the Spider-Verse series. Interestingly, when Cage’s casting as Spider-Man Noir was revealed, Sony Pictures Television Studios president Katherine Pope stated that Noir is part of Sony’s Marvel Character Universe (now named Sony’s Spider-Man Universe). While Noir being the first SSU Spider-Man is a departure from the norm, the series also breaks a longer Spider-Man trend.

Spider-Man is missing from the live-action series

Noir It will go down in history as the first live-action Spider-Man series since 1979. That year saw the release of two live-action series about the wall-crawler, both with very different approaches. One of the series was a Japanese-only Spider-Man series, starring Kosuke Kayama as Takuya Yamashiro, aka Spider-Man. The other live-action series about the Marvel hero released its latest episode in The Amazing SpidermanNicholas Hammond played Peter Parker in Spider-Man 2. Now, 45 years later, Cage is finally reviving the live-action Spider-Man series in Prime Video’s Spider-Man Noir.

Why Sony’s Spider-Man TV plans are so exciting

SSU may be saved

Gwen Stacy, Spider-Pig, Miles Morales, Peter B. Parker, and Spider-Man Noir from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Noir is just the first of a series of Spider-Man films that Sony has in various stages of development. For decades, the only live-action content for Spider-Man fans was the Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland Spider-Man movies. They all followed the same version of the wall-crawling Peter Parker, but each series took a different approach. Spider-Man Noir is still Peter Parker in the comics and in the Spider-Verse films, but Cage’s live-action version has a different secret identity.

Sony’s new Spider-Man TV show Noir‘s approach focuses on different versions of classic Marvel heroes while retaining Peter Parker for theatrical release, signaling the studio is willing to experiment with Spider-Man and bring some diversity to the character’s live-action adventures. Noir This could be the start of a new chapter for SSU, as the absence of Spider-Man has had a detrimental effect on the shared universe, and if Cage’s Spider-Man Noir or another version of the hero joins SSU, it could save the franchise. Noir It ties into the SSU.

Spider-Man Noir

Spider-Man Noir is a live-action television series set in a dark and gritty world. The show tells the story of a cynical and violent Spider-Man who lives in a black and white world. A darker interpretation of the Spider-Man character, the show is set in the 1930s and features a film noir-inspired aesthetic.
