COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Paris Olympics are happening this summer, and some of the brightest basketball stars will be representing their countries, with the U.S. Women’s National Basketball Team undoubtedly taking center stage.
But closer to home, the next generation of future stars will be hitting the ground running in their own international tournaments and beginning new chapters in their basketball journeys.
The USA Basketball Women’s U-18 National Team is participating in training camp from June 8-12 in Colorado Springs.
The up-and-coming players have just a few days to work on team bonding and morale before heading to neighbouring South America, Colombia.
The tournament, which will be held in Bucaramanga, will begin on June 17th and the winner will be crowned on June 23rd.
The US team will face Brazil, Puerto Rico and Mexico in the group stage as they strive to reach the top.
The U.S. Under-18 Women’s National Team is comprised of the following players from the following countries:
- Sienna Betts – Centennial, Colorado
- Jasmine “Jazzy” Davidson – Clackamas, Oregon
- Joyce Edwards – Camden, South Carolina
- Madison Francis – Lancaster, New York
- Kaylee Heckel – Port Chester, NY
- Zakiyah Johnson – Shelbyville, Kentucky
- Jordan Lee – Stockton, California
- Leah Macy – Elizabethtown, Kentucky
- Alivia McGill – Plymouth, Minnesota
- Ariana Roberson – San Antonio, Texas
- Kennedy Smith – Rialto, California
- Sarah Strong – Cary, North Carolina
The team is led by coaches Teri Moir, Jose Fernandez and Neil Ivey.
The women will be aiming to win gold in what is sure to be an exciting and closely contested tournament.
