IDEA Bank at Troy University has partnered with the Pike County Chamber of Commerce and the City of Troy to launch a seven-part Small Business Summer Workshop series to provide local business owners with the tools they need to succeed.
“Workshops were the most requested resource in a recent survey we conducted with our business community, with over 200 responses, so we quickly added seven more to our summer schedule,” said IDEA Bank Director Lynn Firmin George. “When local businesses thrive, the entire city and county benefit, and supporting those business owners is a key part of the mission of IDEA Bank, the Chamber and the City.”
The first session will take place on Wednesday, June 5, and will feature social media tips and tricks from Jonathan Sellers, Troy University’s social media manager. The next two sessions are scheduled for Wednesday, June 12 and Wednesday, June 26, and will feature Matt Clower, Troy University’s senior communications director, speaking on how to effectively manage social media efforts, and Dr. Charla Brown, assistant professor of marketing and entrepreneurship, speaking about marketing strategies beyond social media.

George said all of the June sessions will focus on marketing, while the July sessions will focus on finance-related topics. Session leaders include Travis Colkett, president of Brantley Bank & Trust, Isha Tarver, branch manager at Troy Bank & Trust, and Steve Grice, a certified public accountant and Troy accounting instructor.
“The combination of bankers and academics will bring relevant discussions and tools to understand the banking needs of small businesses, budgeting and forecasting for sustained success, and maximizing profitability to help participants better understand their finances and build healthy cash flows,” she added. “I hope participants leave these sessions feeling more confident, with new ideas and practical tools they can implement immediately. My goal is for our business community to thrive together!”
Sessions will be held from 11:30 am to 1 pm at IDEA Bank downtown. Lunch is included. Cost is $10 per session, with full package rates and discounted rates available for Chamber members. Click here to register.
