“ABC is investigating the impact of President Trump’s conviction,” the network said.
The New Jersey Attorney General’s Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) has confirmed that it is reviewing the liquor license held by former President Donald Trump’s golf course in the state following his New York conviction.
Trump holds three active licenses: Trump National Golf Club Colts Neck, Lamington Farms Club and Trump National Golf Club Pine Hill.
“ABC is currently reviewing the impact of President Trump’s conviction on the above licenses and will not be making any further comment at this time,” a network spokesperson said in an emailed statement.
In New Jersey, it is illegal to issue a liquor license to “any person who has been convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude.” Because applicants for liquor licenses must be of good reputation and are expected to operate licensed businesses in a reputable manner, the Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control has the discretion to take Trump’s criminal history into account.
A jury last month found Trump guilty on all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to a 2016 hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to boost his own election prospects in the 2016 presidential election.
This will be the first time a former US president has been convicted of a criminal offence.
Trump also maintained his innocence as he left court last month, saying: “We did nothing wrong. I’m a completely innocent man. It’s all good.” He added: “I’m fighting for my country, I’m fighting for the Constitution. The whole country is being rigged right now.”
Trump plans to appeal the ruling after it is handed down in July.
