America’s best batsman, Aaron Jones, will not be intimidated by the prospect of coming up against some of the superstars playing in the ICC T20 World Cup Group A match against India in New York.
Jones, who played a key role in the United States’ two victories so far this tournament, said it would be “exciting” to face the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah at Nassau County Stadium on Wednesday.
“Ever since I was a kid, I always wanted to play against the best players in the world and now I’m definitely going to get that opportunity so I’m super excited,” Jones said Tuesday.
“I’m looking forward to playing against them, speaking to them and, of course, beating them,” he added casually.
The Americans will be riding a wave of confidence and belief that they can beat the best teams in the world when they step onto their home ground, but they will be faced with the prospect of playing in front of thousands of Indian fans.
Jones said the crowd will be cheering on both teams.
“We have a lot of Indian players in our team.”
Several of the Indian players on the US national team grew up in India and have played with or against members of the Indian national team.
“This will be the first time the U.S. has played India, so they’re definitely excited to play against their friends,” Jones said.

Meanwhile, India’s bowling coach Paras Muhambray said India will not take the match “lightly”.
“Winning is a habit you have to develop early on,” he told reporters.
“This is the World Cup. Every game matters. Rhythm is important.”
Even though this is a home game for the U.S., Mambre said his team will have an advantage over the hosts after playing two tournament games and one practice match on the difficult New York pitches.
He urged the batsmen to play patiently and strive for a big total.
“Every time I run here [New York] is very important.”
Pitch and weather conditions
New York’s pitches have steadily improved over the past 10 days, making them relatively easy to hit despite providing plenty of help to pitchers.
The captain, who won the toss, still opted to bowl first to gain further advantage in the morning.
There are some clouds but no rain in the East Meadow area of Long Island, where the stadium is located, and humidity is expected to be above 50 percent.

The two teams have never faced each other in any form of cricket.
