Left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh took a career-best 4-9, including two wickets in the first over, as India restricted the United States to 110-8 in their T20 World Cup clash on Wednesday.

India will be cautious about chasing on a notoriously tricky and slow Nassau County International Cricket Stadium pitch, where they have scored modest runs but only managed 119 in their six-run win over Pakistan at the weekend.

A win in this match will guarantee them a place in the second round of the Super Eight.

Arshdeep dismissed opener Shayan Jahangir lbw after he was recalled off the first ball and then had Andries Goos (2) caught in the deep five balls later to put the home team at 3 for 2 after the opening over.

Captain Aaron Jones, a hard-hitting batsman who smashed an unbeaten 94 in the opening match against Canada in Dallas, managed just 11 runs before being dropped by Hardik Pandya.

This took the home team to 25 for 3 with opener Steven Taylor (24) and top-scorer Nitish Kumar (27) putting on 31 for the fourth wicket.

Nitish became Arshdeep’s third victim, caught smartly by Mohammed Siraj on the boundary.

Former New Zealand star Corey Anderson (15) became the sixth man out on 96 thanks to a running catch by wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant off a Pandya ball for a wicket-maiden.

Arshdeep restricted Harmeet Singh to 10 as the US looked to push the total towards triple figures.

Shadlee van Schalkwyk (11) and Jasdeep Singh (2) ensured the USA posted a defendable total.

Both teams come into the match with four points from two wins in Group A, meaning a win for either team will see them join Australia and South Africa in the next stage.
