All three remaining Group A matches are scheduled to be played at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida, one of three stadiums in the United States that will host some of the group stage matches of the T20 World Cup – the other two venues are in New York and Dallas.
T20 World Cup: schedule | Points Table
The United States is on the brink of making history on Friday with a chance to advance to the “Super 8” stage in its first T20 World Cup appearance, but inclement weather in Florida could make that equation even easier.
If the match is cancelled, the US will finish second with five points, and along with group leader India, will be the two teams that advance to the Super 8. The remaining two matches in the group will be India vs Canada (June 15) in Florida and
Pakistan vs Ireland (June 16)–Meaningless.
However, a result-oriented match will be played on Friday, weather permitting, and a win for Ireland against the US would breathe new life into Pakistan’s campaign. Babar Azam’s side must beat Ireland, which would see Pakistan surpass the US on net run rate and progress to the next stage of the tournament.
A series of storms moving from Florida’s west coast to its east coast brought heavy rain and flooding to some areas on Thursday for a third straight day, increasing the risk of flash flooding into the evening, the Associated Press reported.
Meteorologists have warned Floridians to prepare for further flooding after a tropical disturbance dumped up to 20 inches (50 centimeters) of rain on southern Florida, with conditions expected to worsen on Friday.
Heavy rains on Wednesday caused flash flooding from Fort Lauderdale to downtown Miami.
Forecasters are predicting increased rainfall, with another 4 to 8 inches of rain expected, with some areas expected to get more than 10 inches.
