Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign came to a heartbreaking end on Friday with the US qualifying for the Super 8 stage in their first appearance. With two points from three matches, Babar Azam and Co. were hopeful that Ireland would beat the US in their last Group A match. But destiny had other plans in store. The match between the US and Ireland was cancelled due to heavy rains in Florida, leaving the co-hosts to qualify for the Super 8 with five points. With just one match remaining in the group stage, Pakistan’s maximum possible points are a total of four.
Following Pakistan’s shock exit from the World Cup, social media was flooded with hilarious memes and the hashtag “Bye Bye Pakistan” started trending on X (formerly Twitter).

Thanks to wins over neighbours Canada and powerhouse Pakistan in their first two matches, the USA advanced to the Super Eight stage of the T20 knockout stage along with India after their final group match was cancelled.
The USA finished the group stage with five points from four matches, while Pakistan could reach a maximum of four points if they win their final match against Ireland.
Pakistan fell just short of the target of 120 in a tight defeat to India in New York on Sunday, after suffering a shock defeat to the USA in the Super Over in the opening match in Dallas.
The successive losses had already ended Pakistan’s chances of progressing to the Super Eights, complicating the global tournament once again with an unpredictable Pakistan once again coming up short.
Pakistan’s final group stage match will be against Ireland in Florida on Sunday.
