Top five-star women’s basketball player names Virginia Tech as potential visitor

When it comes to recruiting prospects for the Class of 2025, Virginia Tech women’s basketball coach Megan Duffy has already named one player: Katie Sears, a four-star guard from North Carolina, committed to Duffy and the Hokies on Memorial Day night.

Recruitment for this class of players has picked up steam with visits and signings, and one of the freshmen in the 2025 class, Kaylin Carroll, was just named a five-star prospect by ESPN. Her recruiting has accelerated, and she has Virginia Tech listed as one of the schools she will consider visiting.

Carroll, a Marion, Massachusetts, native who plays for Tabor Academy, told 247Sports she was considering visits to North Carolina, Kentucky and Virginia Tech, which offered her a scholarship in 2023 when Kenny Brooks was still coaching at Blacksburg, according to 247Sports, but she said she knows Duffy well.

“I love the school. The campus is beautiful, I got to know Coach Duffy and I love the fans.”

– Kaylin Carroll, 247Sports

Carroll is a shooting guard in high school but wants to enroll as a wing in college, so it’s no surprise that Kentucky and Brooks remain central to her recruiting efforts, and her visit to Lexington will likely include a meeting with former Hokie Georgia Amoore.

“Kenny Brooks is a great coach. He moved there from Virginia Tech. I don’t know much about Kentucky yet, but I like him a lot.”

– Kaylin Carroll

Carroll is expected to announce soon which schools she will visit, but if she decides to come to Blacksburg, Duffy and the Hokies will likely be giving her a big buck, with her options including a number of top-tier programs.
