A new star has been born in the world of golf.
While fans typically see Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele and Rory McIlroy atop the leaderboard, the 2024 U.S. Open will see a new crop of young players enter the competition.
24-year-old Swedish golfer Ludvig Aberg has emerged as one of the best players in the game, having only been a professional golfer for just over a year but already ranking atop his country.
He is coming off a strong showing at the U.S. Open in Pinehurst, North Carolina, and is continuing his strong season in 2024. So far, he has made the difficult courses look relatively easy.

What university did Ludvig Aberg attend?
Aberg graduated from Texas Tech University in 2023. He played four years of golf for the Red Raiders from 2019-2023 and finished No. 1 on the 2023 PGA Tour College Rankings.
As a senior in 2023, he won the Haskins Award, given to the top collegiate golfer in the U.S. He turned professional in June 2023 after his senior year.
Just one year into professional golf, Aberg was ranked sixth in the world.
The 24-year-old is ranked just a few notches below Scheffler, Schauffele and McIlroy, but a second-place finish at the 2024 Masters could help him climb the rankings and a strong performance at the U.S. Open could help him move even higher.

Can Ludvig Aberg and Patrick Mahomes make Texas Tech history?
Aberg isn’t the only star to come out of Texas Tech: Patrick Mahomes of the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs is arguably the most famous Red Raiser in sports.
Mahomes played three seasons at Texas Tech before entering the 2017 NFL Draft, where the Chiefs selected him with the 10th overall pick.
The 28-year-old quarterback has won three Super Bowls, including back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023, and will aim to lead the Chiefs to an unprecedented three-peat in 2024.
In addition to Mahomes’ NFL career, he and Aberg could make history this weekend. If Aberg wins the U.S. Open in 2024, it would be the first time a university has produced a U.S. Open and Super Bowl champion in the same year.
Texas Tech has never had a college Super Bowl-winning quarterback and a U.S. Open champion in the same year, but if Ludwig Oberg wins this week, he’ll become the first to do so.
