VIJAYAPUR: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said there is no link between the Lok Sabha election results and the rise in fuel prices. Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Siddaramaiah said defeat and victory are common in a democracy, while Leader of Opposition Ashoka said it was a political vendetta against the voters. “The BJP has lost six Lok Sabha seats this time compared to 2019. Its vote share has increased by 13 per cent. How can we say it has been defeated? In fact, the BJP has been defeated in the state. Nationally too, its seats have fallen from 303 to 240. “The results prove that the Modi wave has subsided across India,” he said. Defending the fuel price hike, he said petrol price in the state was Rs 102 per litre, cheaper compared to Kasargod in Kerala (Rs 106.7), Anandpur in Andhra Pradesh (Rs 109.4), Hyderabad (Rs 107.4) and Maharashtra (Rs 104.4). “In Rajasthan (Rs 104.9) and Madhya Pradesh (Rs 106.5), where the BJP is in power, petrol prices are higher than in Karnataka,” he said. Responding to Congress members’ disappointment over the guarantee, he said it was being implemented for the poor and not for elections. At the inauguration of the Madhvanand Prabhu Swamiji temple, he said the seer, a freedom fighter, was a strong advocate of pluralism and an ardent follower of Mahatma Gandhi. “Swamiji propagated the teachings of the 12th century Sharana,” he added. He also unveiled the statues of Kranti Veera Sangoli Rayanna and Rani Channamma at Inchageri.
