Gina Thorsen presented the SBAM award for Advocate of the Year.

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WJMN) — The president of one of the Upper Peninsula’s best-known outdoor apparel companies has been named the state’s top advocate for small businesses.

Gina Thorsen, CEO of Stormy Kromer, was presented with the honor by the Michigan Small Business Association in recognition of her strong support for the Upper Peninsula and her efforts to bring more small business owners into the greater community.

“Gina has been and continues to be a strong advocate in the Upper Peninsula, working to get more small businesses on board in the effort to make Michigan the best place to run a small business,” said SBAM President and CEO Brian Curry. “The work Gina has done at Stormy Cromer since taking over the company after her father retired has been simply amazing. Her dedication to the success of all small businesses is impressive and she is a powerful voice in this area across the state. Because of her hard work and dedication to defending small businesses and American businesses, we are proud to name her our 2024 Advocate of the Year.”

Thorsen serves as secretary of the SBAM Board of Directors and regularly attends events around the state with his colleagues, and is a member of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Executive Community and the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity Task Force.

“Supporting and advocating for my fellow small businesses is something I take great pride in and I am so grateful to SBAM for this recognition,” Thorsen said. “We small businesses are all connected and need to support each other in order to thrive, and SBAM allows us to make that connection.”
