WASHINGTON — A Secret Service agent was threatened with a gun and robbed during President Joe Biden’s weekend visit to California.
Biden was in Los Angeles for a campaign fundraiser after returning from the G7 summit in Italy. It was not immediately clear whether the Secret Service mission was related to the president’s visit.
The agent was on his way home from work at the time of Saturday night’s robbery, according to a Secret Service statement, and fired his gun during the confrontation, but it was unclear whether any assailants were shot.. The agent was not injured, according to the statement.
The crash happened around 9:36 p.m. local time in the Tustin Fields neighborhood of Orange County. No suspects have been found, but a silver 2004-2006 Infiniti FX35 or similar model was seen leaving the scene, Tustin police said.
Police said they found some of the agents’ belongings in the area.

The robbery remains under investigation.
Biden’s motorcade returned to the hotel at 8:53 p.m. local time after a quick but uneventful drive through Los Angeles at night.
Secret Service agents are responsible for protecting a variety of people, including the president, former presidents, their spouses and young children, and other dignitaries. The Secret Service did not disclose where its agents were working that day.
