Tim Tadlock and the Texas Tech baseball team got their first transfer pledge from a position player on Tuesday.

Schultz began his collegiate career at Long Beach State before spending the next two seasons with the Golden Bears. In 2023, he appeared in 51 games and batted .252 with 39 RBI and 18 home runs.

Schultz (6-foot-1, 205 pounds) started 54 games and played in 55 games last season, batting .323, second on the team. He hit 10 home runs and also led the team in doubles (21) and RBIs. Those performances earned him Pac-12 Conference All-Conference honors.

Cal went 36-19 in 2024 and reached the semifinals of the conference tournament.

Schultz is expected to take over the first base position for the Red Raiders after Gavin Kash entered the transfer portal earlier this month.

Also on Tuesday, Davis Rivers announced that he would be returning Rivers ended up attending Texas Tech University. He announced on social media on June 2 that he would enter the transfer portal, but after “many lengthy discussions,” he changed his mind, according to his post.

All of Texas Tech’s transfer portal entries so far have been pitchers, with freshman All-American pitcher Lucas Pirko signing from California Baptist University last week.
