Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria has slammed Wasim Akram and other former Pakistan cricketers for criticising the current Pakistan team. Kaneria said Akram and other cricketers should come to the team’s aid instead of criticising from the outside. Pakistan was eliminated in the group stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup after losing to India and the USA. Kaneria’s reaction came after Wasim Akram had publicly lashed out on social media, demanding that Pakistan form a new team.

“Wasim Akram and others can only preach from outside. Why are they not coming to Pakistan’s aid?” Kaneria questioned. “Why didn’t Wasim Akram question Mohammed Amir’s selection immediately?” Kaneria told Sports Now.

“Shoaib Malik is a better player than them (the current team),” he added.

The former leg-spinner said Pakistan’s preparations for the T20 World Cup in 2024 were not adequate, and he was particularly concerned about the selection of Mohammed Amir and Azam Khan.

“They (Pakistan) should have selected 20-22 players for the camp and then picked the best 15 from that,” Kaneria said. “Where were Mohammed Amir and Azam Khan six months ago?” Kaneria blasted.

Kaneria slammed the Pakistan team management for being unable to take firm decisions.

“They wake up in the morning and say one thing, but by the evening they change their mind. They are masters of change,” Kaneria said.

“They’re selfish and they think they can do no wrong,” he added.

Kaneria also criticised the decision to give back the captaincy to Babar Azam and suggested that he should bat at No. 3 in T20Is with Fakhar Zaman and Mohammed Rizwan as openers.

Babar Azam scored 122 runs in four matches in the 2024 T20 World Cup but at a rate of just 101.
