USA vs South Africa live scores, T20 World Cup 2024, USA vs South Africa Super 8 match: The Super Eight stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup begins with South Africa taking on in-form co-hosts USA at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. The USA have been the talk of the tournament so far, beating Pakistan to finish second in the Super Eight in Group A and book their place in their first T20 World Cup appearance.
The hosts have had a fantastic run of form so far, beginning their group stage campaign with a seven-wicket win over neighbours Canada before beating former champions Pakistan in a surprise Super Over.
Their final Group A match against Ireland was cancelled due to rain, but despite a narrow defeat to India, they managed to finish comfortably second in their group with five points from four matches.
Ahead of the crucial match, confident captain Monank Patel said: “It’s been a fantastic journey so far and reaching the Super 8s is a huge milestone for us. We are looking forward to taking on the best teams in the world. The team is up for the challenge and will do everything in our power to continue this form.”
By qualifying for the Super Eight, the USA has also qualified for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2026, to be hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
USA Cricket President Venu Pithike also expressed his excitement and pride, saying, “Qualifying for the Super 8 in our first ever T20 World Cup is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our players and support staff. This achievement not only highlights the growth of cricket in the USA but also lays the foundation for future success and the goals we want to achieve by promoting cricket in the USA. We are also pleased that we have secured a spot in the 2026 T20 World Cup.”
The Super 8 stage will see the eight teams split into two groups of four, with the top two from each group advancing to the semi-finals. Drawn in Group 2, the USA will face formidable opponents including South Africa, co-hosts and two-time T20 World Cup winners West Indies, and defending champions England. All matches in the Super 8 stage will be held in the Caribbean islands.
South Africa have never won an ICC tournament but they are a strong team and will go into the match as favourites, with their bowlers in top form, led by fleet-footed Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada, and their batsmen in top form too, particularly dangerous middle order Henrich Klaassen and David Miller.
But the USA also produced some spectacular cricket, with top-order batsman Monanck and vice-captain Aaron Jones showing their game-changing power. Left-arm medium-pacer Saurabh Netravalkar has garnered international attention, and with the experience of former New Zealander Corey Anderson added, the USA will be confident taking on the Proteas.
