A social media trend has seen various F1 stars getting into some trouble in a series of TikTok videos.

The sport’s popularity has increased in the wake of the Netflix documentary series “Drive to Survive,” and teams are capitalizing on social media trends to attract new fans.

Now, their content reflects a younger, more diverse fanbase, and drivers are more open about communicating their identity and brand to their audience.

F1 caught up in latest social media trend

The latest trend taking F1 by storm and leaving many drivers perplexed is “Can you watch me race?”

These videos typically begin with the TikTok user saying to the camera, “I’ll be back soon, can you watch my video?”

The camera is then pointed at the subject as it continues to record, often confusing viewers and making them wonder if they are in a live video.

Across the F1 community, creatives and family members alike are jumping on the trend.

In one video, Hearthstone Team boss Guenther Steiner stunned viewers by revealing her father, who had a bewildered look on his face when the camera was turned to him.

Oscar Piastri and Carlos Sainz also got caught up in this trend, McLaren The driver was ambushed during lunch.

However, the Australian didn’t remain confused for long and continued eating his eggs without a care in the world whether he was on live stream or not.

Sainz, meanwhile, was fooled by the trick, asking the camera if anyone was there while simultaneously checking that his hair looked perfect.
