An upper level ridge is forming across the Southwest, keeping temperatures warmer later this week and into the weekend, according to the National Weather Service in San Diego.

High temperatures on Thursday are expected to reach 74 degrees near the coast, 77 degrees inland, 80 degrees in the western valleys, 89 degrees in the foothills, 94 degrees in the mountains and 108 degrees in the desert.

High temperatures this weekend will be 8 to 12 degrees above normal from the inland valleys to the lower coastal mountain slopes and deserts.

Following the summer solstice tomorrow (June 20), seasonally cool temperatures will change to a warmer trend as high pressure moves in from the east. Above average temperatures will begin tomorrow in the desert but will spread inland by the weekend. pic.twitter.com/JmrfTJBpiR

Overnight temperatures are expected to rise in the low-lying desert and foothills over the weekend and into early next week, with humidity in the lowlands gradually increasing on Saturday.

Mid-level monsoon air will increase Sunday through early next week, the NWS said, as rising sea levels cool coastal areas and low night and morning clouds spread to parts of the valley later in the day but become less widespread.
